Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is the internship only open for undergraduate students at KSU?
No! The internship is open to undergraduate students as well as graduate students at KSU.
Is the internship in person or remote?
Originally, the internship took place on campus. However, quarantine forced the internship to take place online. Now that quarantine is no longer enforced, interns may choose to work in person, remote, or hybrid. Interns who choose to work in person will do so on the Kennesaw campus, while interns who choose to work remotely will do so through Microsoft Teams.
May I apply if I live and/or attend classes at the Marietta Campus?
Yes! KSU offers public transportation from the Marietta campus to the Kennesaw campus if you choose to work in person. You can find the hours of operation and shuttle routes of the Big Owl Bus (B.O.B.) here. KSU also offers complimentary access to Microsoft Teams if you choose to work remotely.
How many hours will I work a week?
KJUR allows interns to set hours and schedules that align with their other responsibilities. Interns may choose to work from five hours up to 10 hours a week. They may choose to work their hours from one day up to several days a week between Monday and Friday. Interns' hours and schedules may be impacted by whether or not they are working for academic credit.
What experience should I have for this internship?
It is highly desirable to have advanced writing skills. You must be familiar enough with language and grammar rules that you are able to assist student authors in adhering to them. It is beneficial to have proficiency in Microsoft Word, email etiquette to communicate with students and faculty, and creativity to promote their work on social media. If you do not possess some of these skills, willingness to learn them is just as important!
What's a typical day like as an intern?
First, you will check article submissions for updates. You will determine if they need to be reviewed, resubmitted, or edited. Once you are finished, you will create content for KJUR's files, website, and social media. This may range from creating a spreadsheet with information about KJUR's publications to creating a graphic that increases KJUR's engagement.
