Abstract
This project highlights the struggles Indian women face in their everyday lives. Topics addressed on the poster board include: education, dowry, rape, superiority, health, jobs, the difference between boys and girls, and the extreme acts of violence committed against women and young girls. In the video, the producers begin by telling the story of a young girl who lived in India but moved to Atlanta, GA in pursuit of her education. While here, she is raped. This narrative turn is meant to demonstrate that rape and violence also happen in the U.S. and that many issues in India are also a problem in this country. After the story about the young girl, the producers move on to address other issues in India, including female feticide, child marriages, and health and infrastructure.
This project won the Professionalism Award at the Fall 2017 Learning Communities Academic Extravaganza.
