Description
While the challenges and successes of implementing OER initiatives in higher education have been well documented in public institutions, an area that has received less attention is the implementation of OER course materials and programs at private, nonprofit institutions. Regis University is a private, nonprofit Jesuit institution, and open educational resources strongly align with the University's mission of a more just and humane world by making course materials more affordable, expanding access to high-quality content, and encouraging a more diverse and equitable education system. Librarians at Regis University enthusiastically support creating an OER initiative but face unique challenges in implementing OER as common and unified practice. In this lightning talk, we will talk about the context of the university and Dayton Memorial Library, the opportunities and barriers we have identified to implementing an OER initiative, and our ideas on how to best address these issues going forward.
