Description
This study examines the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) curricula globally and proposes a framework for educational redesign. Through a mixed-methods approach, including literature review, interviews, and analysis of 100 ICT programs across six continents, we identify significant regional disparities in AI education and key challenges in curriculum adaptation. Only 37% of analysed programs offer comprehensive AI courses, with institutions in Africa and South America notably lagging. We propose a flexible framework for AI integration, encompassing core foundations, specialization tracks, cross-cutting integration, practical projects, and continuous adaptation mechanisms. Preliminary validation shows promising results in student satisfaction and job placement rates. This study provides actionable insights for educators and policymakers to align ICT education with the evolving needs of the AI industry.
