This special performance features musical works selected to correspond with artwork and concepts presented in the ZMA’s fall exhibition, Medium. Journey through the museum’s galleries while listening to KSU faculty members perform works that explore liminal spaces, uneasy pasts, and mystical forces alongside art that does the same.

    Trey Wright, guitarist and Senior Lecturer of Jazz Studies and Jazz Guitar, performs sax-filled tunes featuring saxophonists Mace Hibbard and Sam Skelton. "The title of this program was inspired by bassist Ray Brown’s Some of my best friends are … album series in which each album would feature some of Ray’s favorite artists on a specific instrument. Over the past several years I have been fortunate to have Mace and Sam perform music I have written, but I have never had the opportunity to have both saxophonists on the same concert. Tonight’s program will celebrate the artistry of both musicians with a mix of older and more recent original compositions.

    Tyrone Jackson, Lecturer in Jazz Piano, performs music from his recent release "Melody in Nede" - a multi-movement composition that tells a fictitious story about four musicians who discover “Melody” a woman, as well as the most important element of music. The love for “Melody” pits two musicians against each other in this musical tale.
