This recital is presented in partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree Bachelor of Music in Music Education. Ms. Palmer studies voice with Jana Young.
Faculty Jazz Parliament, "Blue"

Sam Skelton, Luke Weathington, Rob Opitz, Wes Funderburk, Trey Wright, Tyrone Jackson, Marc Miller, Justin Chesarek, and Karla Harris

The KSU Faculty Jazz Parliament presents "Blue," a special performance highlighting the members of the School of Music's talented jazz faculty. This performance will include vocalist Karla Harris, Sam Skelton and Luke Weathington on reeds, Rob Opitz on trumpet, Wes Funderburk on trombone, Trey Wright on guitar, Tyrone Jackson on piano, Marc Miller on bass, and Justin Chesarek on drums.
Summit Trio and Friends

Helen Kim, Kenn Wagner, Catherine Lynn, Charae Krueger, and Robert Henry

The Summit Trio presents a very special recital featuring Brahms' epic Piano Quintet in F minor (Op. 34). Perhaps one of the most beloved pieces of chamber music, this is the first time the work will be performed at Kennesaw State. Summit Trio is violinist Helen Kim (Professor of Violin), cellist Charae Krueger (Artist-in-Residence and Lecturer of Cello), and pianist Robert Henry (Director of Piano Studies and Assistant Professor of Music) with KSU faculty guests Kenn Wagner, violin, and Cathy Lynn, viola.

This KSU School of Music performance features tenor and Instructor of Voice Nathan Munson, with pianist and Associate Professor of Music Theory Dr. Ben Wadsworth, and John Warren, Associate Professor of Clarinet. Program includes works by Beethoven, Pizzetti, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and more.

Pianist Robert Henry, KSU Director of Piano Studies and Assistant Professor of Music, presents a special solo recital featuring works by J. S. Bach and Beethoven.
Vocal Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble III Debut Concert

This KSU School of Music Debut Concert features the Vocal Jazz Combo under the direction of Karla Harris, Artist-in-Residence in Vocal Jazz, and Jazz Ensemble III under the direction of Rob Opitz, Artist-in-Residence in Jazz Trumpet.

This KSU School of Music performance features the Tuba / Euphonium Ensemble directed by Paul Dickinson and featuring guest artist Erik Lundquist, euphonium with Judith Cole, piano.
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; Jun Märkl, Conductor and Giora Schmidt, violin

Giora Schmidt

Atlanta favorite Jun Märkl leads an evening of stunning French music packed with velvety-rich harmonies and exquisite orchestral craftsmanship. Opening the performance is Berlioz' dramatic and brilliantly rousing Overture to Benvenuto Cellini followed by Henri Vieuxtemps' Violin Concerto No. 5 featuring Giora Schmidt in his Atlanta Symphony debut. The program closes with Ravel's Daphnis et Choloé, described by Beatles producer George Martin as "a swelling of sound that is just breathtaking" when placing the work at the top of his list of essentials on BBC's "Desert Island Discs."
Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble

This KSU School of Music performance features KSU Wind Ensemble, led by Director of Bands Dr. David Kehler, and KSU Wind Symphony, led by Associate Director of Bands Dr. Debra Traficante, with KSU faculty soloists Doug Lindsey, cornet, and Ryan Moser, trumpet. Program features works by Arnold Schoenberg, James Stephenson, George Gershwin, and more.
Jazz Ensembles

Rebecca Miller and Kristin Houston

KSU Jazz Ensemble I, led by Director of Jazz Studies Sam Skelton, plays music by the legendary, shape-shifting progressive jazz guitarist Pat Metheny and other jazz greats. This performance also features KSU Jazz Ensemble II led by Wes Funderburk, Artist-in-Residence in Jazz Studies and Jazz Trombone.
Symphony Orchestra and North Georgia Honor Orchestra

The North Georgia Honor Orchestra invites talented pre-college string instrumentalists in and around North Georgia to focus on developing advanced technical and musical skills under the guidance of the exceptional KSU School of Music faculty. The two-day event culminates in a special performance featuring the students of the North Georgia Honor Orchestra performing Carl Nielsen's Suite for String Orchestra (Op. 1) and a combined performance of Brahms' Finale from Symphony No. 2 (Op. 73) with the KSU Symphony Orchestra.

The KSU Symphony Orchestra, led by Director of Orchestral String Studies, Dr. Nathaniel F. Parker, presents a special program featuring Brahms' Symphony No. 2 in D Major and KSU faculty violinist Helen Kim performing Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1.
Kennesaw State University Men's Ensemble, Chorale, and Chamber Singers, "Sacred Music of Fauré and Mozart"

This KSU School of Music performance by the KSU Men's Ensemble, Chorale, and Chamber Singers led by Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Leslie Blackwell, features Gabriel Fauré's "Requiem" and Mozart's "Vesperae solennes de confessore" (K. 339) with guest organist Brian Parks.
Philharmonic and University Band

This KSU School of Music performance features KSU Philharmonic, led by Assistant Professor of Music Education, Dr. Nancy Conley, and KSU University Band, led by Assistant Director of Bands, Dr. Trey Harris.
Signature Series: Andrés Cárdenes, violin with Elizabeth Pridgen, piano

Andrés Cárdenes, Elizabeth Pridgen, and Helen Kim

Grammy nominated violinist, conductor, and recording artist Andrés Cárdenes has garnered international acclaim from critics and audiences alike for his versatile career and masterful performances. In addition to serving as Concertmaster for the Pittsburgh Symphony for over 20 years, Cárdenes has performed as soloist with over 100 orchestras across four continents including The Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony, and Bavarian Radio Orchestra. Presented in cooperation with the Atlanta Chamber Players, this performance will also feature pianist and Atlanta Chamber Players Artistic Director, Elizabeth Pridgen.
Faculty Brass Showcase

This special recital features solo and collaborative performances by the talented members of the KSU brass faculty including Doug Lindsey and Ryan Moser, trumpets, Richard Williams, horn, Jason Casanova, euphonium, and Paul Dickinson, tuba.
Women's Choir and Whitewater High School Chorale Women, "The Little Road"

The KSU Women's Choir presents a special program titled, "The Little Road," featuring music that reflects life and the journey each singer embarks on at the beginning of the school year. "The Little Road" is a musical journey of inspirational themes explored through a wide variety of choral music, challenging poetry, and traditional folk singing that reflects moving forward in your life through music, art, and relationships. This performance will also include the Whitewater High School Chorale Women from Fayetteville, GA.
KSU Wind Ensemble presents "Happy 100th Lenny!"

The KSU Wind Ensemble presents a special program featuring the music of Leonard Bernstein to commemorate 100 years since the birth of the acclaimed American composer and conductor in 1918. The program will include some of the most memorable American music of the 20th Century including Overture to Candide, Make Our Garden Grow, Suite from Mass, Prelude, Fugue and Riffs, "Slava!", and Four Dances from West Side Story.

Pianist Robert Henry, KSU Director of Piano Studies and Assistant Professor of Music, presents a special recital with guest performers including soprano Jana Young, pianist Julie Coucheron, flutist Todd Skitch, clarinetist John Warren, cellist Charae Krueger, and baritone Enrique Victrum. Performance features works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Gershwin, Philippe Gaubert, Ferdinando Paer, and more. The Washington Post praised Dr. Henry's "dazzling ability to turn the percussion instrument into a sonorous orchestra… stratospheric sounds… rumbling earthiness… his colorful, virtuosic, sensitive playing proved that nothing surpasses finely executed Chopin."
Faculty Recital: Trey Wright, guitar, "A Tribute to Joni Mitchell"

Trey Wright, Laura Coyle, Sam Skelton, Marc Miller, and Justin Chesarek

Guitarist Trey Wright leads this special tribute performance featuring music written and inspired by Joni Mitchell, including Trey's original composition "Joni" from his 2015 release Songs From Oak Avenue and classic Joni Mitchell works such as "Both Sides Now," "Woodstock," and "In France, They Kiss on Main Street." Often considered "one of the greatest songwriters ever" (Rolling Stone), Joni Mitchell has received 9 GRAMMY Awards throughout her five decade career as is considered one of the most important and influential female recording artists of the 20th century. Recital features vocalist Laura Coyle along with KSU faculty members Sam Skelton, saxophone, Marc Miller, bass, and Justin Chesarek, drums.
KSU Symphony Orchestra

The KSU Symphony Orchestra, led by Director of Orchestral String Studies Dr. Nathaniel Parker, presents a special program featuring Verdi's Overture to "La forza del destino," Prokofiev's Suite from "Lieutenant Kije," and Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in D Major.
Interchange IV: Portraits

The KSU School of Music and Zuckerman Museum of Art present "Interchange IV: Portraits," our fourth annual collaborative, roving recital featuring music performed in the museum. This special performance features musical works selected to correspond with artwork and concepts presented in the ZMA's fall exhibitions "Figure Forward" and "Class Pictures." Journey through the museum's galleries while listening to thematically-related compositions performed by KSU faculty performers including tenor Nathan Munson, mezzo-soprano Heather Witt, clarinetist John Warren, percussionist John Lawless, and pianist Ben Wadsworth.

John Warren, KSU Associate Professor of Clarinet, presents an all-Mozart program featuring several of the composer's classic works arranged for updated instrumentation. Included on the program are Mozart's Violin Sonata (K. 378) performed on clarinet, Bassoon Concerto (K. 191) performed on bass clarinet, and Piano Trio (K. 496) performed by a clarinet, violin, viola, and cello quartet. Performance will feature KSU faculty violinist Helen Kim, violist Cathy Lynn, cellist Charae Krueger, and pianist Robert Henry.
Faculty Recital: Jason Eklund, horn, "Bold New Soundscapes for Horn"

Jason Eklund, KSU Artist-in-Residence in Horn and Assistant Professor of Music, presents a special program featuring works for horn written in the past five years, including two world premieres. Eric Alexander's piece, written for Jason Eklund for horn, violin, piano and percussion, is inspired by one of the great chamber works of all time: Johannes Brahms' Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano. The second premiere was written by Emory composer, Adam Mirza, for horn and live electronics.
