The Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education offers initial teacher certification programs for Middle Grades (4-8) Education (English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) and for Secondary (6-12) Education (mathematics and science). Graduate programs include the M.Ed., Ed.S, and Ed.D. in various middle and secondary area concentrations, as well as the Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. The department includes faculty with academic expertise in core content areas; curriculum and instruction; educational psychology; and educational research. The department faculty are committed to the development of expertise in teaching and learning and focus on teachers’ implementation of developmentally and culturally responsive practices.
