Volume 3, Issue 1 (2024) Energizing Heritage: Sustainable Practices in the Maya World

DEEPER INSIGHTS:

Editor's Note:

We are delighted to present this special edition of the Journal of Maya Heritage, titled "Energizing Heritage: Sustainable Practices in the Maya World". This issue is dedicated to the remarkable insights and research presented at the International Conference on Sustainable Development and Energy Transition: Preservation of Natural and Cultural Heritage in the Yucatán Peninsula, which took place on September 11, 12, and 13, 2024.

The conference brought together esteemed academics, researchers, and experts to explore a wide range of topics through its three main thematic axes:

  • Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Governance and Sustainable Social Processes
  • Engineering and Technology: Energy and Environmental Sustainability
  • Experiences and Challenges in the Comprehensive Management of Archaeological Heritage: Integration, Participation, and Sustainability

We had the honor of hosting renowned speakers such as Dr. Luca Ferrari, Dr. Omar Masera, Dr. Ryan Rowberry, and Ph.D. João Pedro Gouveia, who delivered keynote lectures addressing the challenges and solutions for ecosocial transition in the Yucatán Peninsula, ecotechnological innovation, and legal strategies to protect archaeological heritage from climate change.

This edition compiles and publishes the innovative research and relevant case studies presented during the conference. We invite you to delve into the rich content that showcases the integration of sustainable practices within the context of Maya heritage.

The Journal of Maya Heritage remains committed to promoting knowledge and the preservation of Maya culture. We extend our gratitude to all the contributors and participants who made this special edition possible.

Sincerely,
