Description of Work

Greek Revival Architecture was undoubtedly the style of choice for residential and government buildings throughout much of the American South in the years preceding the Civil War. The widespread adoption of the architectural style during the antebellum period can be attributed to the desire of prominent figures to evoke a sense of order and democracy in public buildings, as well as notions of affluence and grandeur in their private residences.
