1) About the conference venue – Addis Ababa University.

2) VISA Information

You can get your visa when you arrive at the airport. The visa office is located at the immigration check point prior to baggage claim, Tourist visa is $50.00 (fifty US dollars per person). You can also get visa from an Ethiopian embassy in your region. The only exception is Kenyan and Djibouti nationals who can enter without visa.

Effective June 1, 2018 Ethiopia has started issuing visa online; you can access the online visa portal by clicking here. A 30-day visa is available for about $50.00 US Dollars.

3) Local currency

The local currency is Birr (Ethiopian Birr). Exchange rate is roughly 28 Birr for dollar ($1.00 USD). There is one exchange bank inside the airport. The bank can be accessed from the visa-immigration room as well as from baggage claim section.

4) International Travel

Bole International Airport is the hub of Ethiopian Airlines and the destination airport for Addis Ababa – Airport Code ADD. Ethiopian Airlines flights to many international destinations. Many international airlines fly to Addis Ababa (ADD) including fly to Egypt Air, Emirates, Kenyan Airways, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines to name a few.

5) Local Travel

Most people arrive in the capital of Ethiopia through Bole International Airport (airport code ADD). You can rent a car or use the local transportation to go to your hotel or tour the city. Many hotels and guest houses pick-up from the airport so check with your hotel or ask at the kiosk outside baggage claim. If your hotel does not offer a shuttle, you can find taxi upon exiting the airport. There are two types of taxis services from the airport: meter taxi or Lada taxi.

Meter taxi
Yellow meter taxi or green and white meter taxi. Fare from the airport to most hotels ranges from 200 to 350 birr.ie US dollars $7 to $12.

Lada taxis
Blue Lada taxi are all through the city. These are relatively cheaper with the fare's ranging from 150 to 250 birr.ie US dollars $5 to $8 from the airport to most hotels. Be sure to negotiate for your cab fare though since international visitors are often charged a higher price.
