Description

Various organisations in South Africa have adopted Artificial Intelligent (AI) for improving organisational efficiency and effectiveness. However, South Africa is still in the exploratory stages of AI adoption, indicating that there are gaps in AI regulation at both national and organisational levels. In addition, high unemployment in South Africa increases fears that AI could replace jobs across industries. These contextual issues affect employees as organisations invest in AI systems. Despite this, little attention has been paid to how employees perceive AI, even though it is reshaping how work is structured, done, and experienced in South African organisations. Thus, the objective of this study was to understand employee perceptions of AI adoption and integration in South African organisations. The study adopts qualitative methods; semi-structured interviews were used for data collection, and thematic analysis was used for data analysis. The results reflect a culture influenced by employees’ trust, organisational readiness and shared ethical understanding.
