Signature Series: Andrés Cárdenes, violin with Elizabeth Pridgen, piano

Andrés Cárdenes, Elizabeth Pridgen, and Helen Kim

Grammy nominated violinist, conductor, and recording artist Andrés Cárdenes has garnered international acclaim from critics and audiences alike for his versatile career and masterful performances. In addition to serving as Concertmaster for the Pittsburgh Symphony for over 20 years, Cárdenes has performed as soloist with over 100 orchestras across four continents including The Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony, and Bavarian Radio Orchestra. Presented in cooperation with the Atlanta Chamber Players, this performance will also feature pianist and Atlanta Chamber Players Artistic Director, Elizabeth Pridgen.
Faculty Brass Showcase

Douglas Lindsey, Ryan Moser, Richard Williams, Jason Casanova, Paul Dickinson, and Judith Cole

This special recital features solo and collaborative performances by the talented members of the KSU brass faculty including Doug Lindsey and Ryan Moser, trumpets, Richard Williams, horn, Jason Casanova, euphonium, and Paul Dickinson, tuba.
Women's Choir and Whitewater High School Chorale Women, "The Little Road"

The KSU Women's Choir presents a special program titled, "The Little Road," featuring music that reflects life and the journey each singer embarks on at the beginning of the school year. "The Little Road" is a musical journey of inspirational themes explored through a wide variety of choral music, challenging poetry, and traditional folk singing that reflects moving forward in your life through music, art, and relationships. This performance will also include the Whitewater High School Chorale Women from Fayetteville, GA.
KSU Wind Ensemble presents "Happy 100th Lenny!"

The KSU Wind Ensemble presents a special program featuring the music of Leonard Bernstein to commemorate 100 years since the birth of the acclaimed American composer and conductor in 1918. The program will include some of the most memorable American music of the 20th Century including Overture to Candide, Make Our Garden Grow, Suite from Mass, Prelude, Fugue and Riffs, "Slava!", and Four Dances from West Side Story.
Faculty Recital: "Robert Henry and Friends"

Robert Henry, Jana Young, Todd Skitch, Julie Coucheron, John Warren, Charae Krueger, and Enrique Victrum

Pianist Robert Henry, KSU Director of Piano Studies and Assistant Professor of Music, presents a special recital with guest performers including soprano Jana Young, pianist Julie Coucheron, flutist Todd Skitch, clarinetist John Warren, cellist Charae Krueger, and baritone Enrique Victrum. Performance features works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Gershwin, Philippe Gaubert, Ferdinando Paer, and more. The Washington Post praised Dr. Henry's "dazzling ability to turn the percussion instrument into a sonorous orchestra… stratospheric sounds… rumbling earthiness… his colorful, virtuosic, sensitive playing proved that nothing surpasses finely executed Chopin."
Faculty Recital: Trey Wright, guitar, "A Tribute to Joni Mitchell"

Trey Wright, Laura Coyle, Sam Skelton, Marc Miller, and Justin Chesarek

Guitarist Trey Wright leads this special tribute performance featuring music written and inspired by Joni Mitchell, including Trey's original composition "Joni" from his 2015 release Songs From Oak Avenue and classic Joni Mitchell works such as "Both Sides Now," "Woodstock," and "In France, They Kiss on Main Street." Often considered "one of the greatest songwriters ever" (Rolling Stone), Joni Mitchell has received 9 GRAMMY Awards throughout her five decade career as is considered one of the most important and influential female recording artists of the 20th century. Recital features vocalist Laura Coyle along with KSU faculty members Sam Skelton, saxophone, Marc Miller, bass, and Justin Chesarek, drums.
KSU Symphony Orchestra

The KSU Symphony Orchestra, led by Director of Orchestral String Studies Dr. Nathaniel Parker, presents a special program featuring Verdi's Overture to "La forza del destino," Prokofiev's Suite from "Lieutenant Kije," and Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in D Major.
Interchange IV: Portraits

Nathan Munson, Heather Witt, John Warren, John Lawless, and Ben Wadsworth

The KSU School of Music and Zuckerman Museum of Art present "Interchange IV: Portraits," our fourth annual collaborative, roving recital featuring music performed in the museum. This special performance features musical works selected to correspond with artwork and concepts presented in the ZMA's fall exhibitions "Figure Forward" and "Class Pictures." Journey through the museum's galleries while listening to thematically-related compositions performed by KSU faculty performers including tenor Nathan Munson, mezzo-soprano Heather Witt, clarinetist John Warren, percussionist John Lawless, and pianist Ben Wadsworth.
Faculty Recital: John Warren, clarinet, "Mozart Remix"

John Warren, Helen Kim, Catherine Lynn, Charae Krueger, and Robert Henry

John Warren, KSU Associate Professor of Clarinet, presents an all-Mozart program featuring several of the composer's classic works arranged for updated instrumentation. Included on the program are Mozart's Violin Sonata (K. 378) performed on clarinet, Bassoon Concerto (K. 191) performed on bass clarinet, and Piano Trio (K. 496) performed by a clarinet, violin, viola, and cello quartet. Performance will feature KSU faculty violinist Helen Kim, violist Cathy Lynn, cellist Charae Krueger, and pianist Robert Henry.
Faculty Recital: Jason Eklund, horn, "Bold New Soundscapes for Horn"

Jason Eklund, KSU Artist-in-Residence in Horn and Assistant Professor of Music, presents a special program featuring works for horn written in the past five years, including two world premieres. Eric Alexander's piece, written for Jason Eklund for horn, violin, piano and percussion, is inspired by one of the great chamber works of all time: Johannes Brahms' Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano. The second premiere was written by Emory composer, Adam Mirza, for horn and live electronics.
