Honors Voice Recital

One of the highlights of the KSU Bailey School of Music Voice Department is the prestigious Honors Recital. Upon recommendation from our panel of applied teachers, advanced singers are selected to perform in Bailey Hall to showcase their talent. Repertoire ranges from Handel to Hoiby and Bach to Bernstein in this gala evening for friends and family accompanied by our professional collaborative pianists. These singers have the opportunity to coach with visiting professional artists such as Metropolitan Opera Mezzo Soprano, Jennifer Larmore as well as artists from the Atlanta Opera. We are proud of the high level of singing and technical training that is a hallmark of our KSU Voice Department, and we are pleased to be able to offer this wonderful evening of vocal music to the public.

Robert & Clara Schumann’s Epic Valentine’s Day Recital Featuring Guest Composers: Wieck, Kirchner, and Brahms

Make this Valentine's Day extra special with an afternoon performance by KSU faculty pianist, Robert Henry. Dr. Henry is an internationally distinguished pianist who regularly performs throughout the world as orchestral soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and recording artist. Since winning first prize in four international piano competitions, he has presented solo debuts at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Wigmore Hall. The Black Musicians Coalition is pleased to present The Blueprint: #blackinthearts, an interdisciplinary Black History celebration that incorporates new and old aspects of Black art and the impact that it has on current music and art styles. The production features an original arrangement of the Black National Anthem and multiple choreographed dance numbers all by KSU students as well as performances by KSU SOM faculty member Tyrone Jackson. This event is brought together by a collaboration of student leaders from each school in the College of the Arts: Music, Theater, Dance and Visual Arts. The acts highlight the students’ contributions to their disciplinary fields as well as their experiences being Black and in the arts.

An exciting highlight of each season, Collage is the signature annual production of the School of Music. All proceeds and donations support student scholarships. This unique production features over 200 student and faculty performers. The featured highlighted ensembles include jazz, orchestra, choir, band, percussion, opera, chamber groups, and much more. This year, Collage is free and you may live-stream the event from the comfort of your home.

Faculty Recital: An Evening with Friends

Join us virtually for "An Evening with Friends" featuring performances by Judith Cole, Kennesaw State University Artist in Residence in Collaborative Piano. The program features faculty professors Helen Kim, Charae Krueger, Kenn Wagner, Nancy Conley, Doug Lindsey, Marc Miller, John Lawless, John Warren and former student Chani Maisonet performing several works never before heard on our concert hall stage. From Beethoven and Saint-Saens to Ewazen and music from a recently released film, this recital is designed for lovers of traditional concert music as well as those who enjoy lighter fare, all presented by a group of close friends who are School of Music faculty.

A performance by KSU School of Music faculty Charae Krueger, cello, Robert Henry, piano, and Helen Kim, violin. One of the featured works is Flame Language by KSU Composer-in-Residence Laurence Sherr. This remembrance composition is a setting of a poem by Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate Nelly Sachs, and the performance comes just before the annual marking of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27. Special guests joining Charae Krueger and Robert Henry to perform Flame Language are Heather Witt, mezzo-soprano, John Warren, clarinet, John Lawless, percussion, and David Kehler, conductor. Other works on the program are the Duo for Violin and Cello by Zoltán Kodály and the Beethoven D Major cello sonata.
