Department Chair: Dr. Sean Ellermeyer
The Department of Mathematics of Kennesaw State University serves and benefits the students and programs of the University through its course and degree offerings and its continued dedication to excellence in teaching. The Department contributes to the greater mathematical and scientific communities through dissemination of original research, service in review of academic works, and through faculty contributions to local, national, and international mathematical societies. Moreover, the Department serves the local and global communities with programs of outreach to schools and businesses and through its contribution to the professional landscape by preparing innovative, high-quality graduates.
Majors and minors in mathematics prepare you for success in many fields, including a surprising variety of professions because of the increasing demand for quantitative literacy and the shortage of people with those skills. Employment prospects upon graduation are further enhanced with the choice of appropriate interdisciplinary electives. Among these are courses in computer science, biology, chemistry or any of the business areas. Recent KSU graduates with majors or minors in mathematics have also been accepted into graduate programs in a variety of areas including mathematics, statistics, epidemiology, psychology, and kinesiology. Study of mathematics is excellent preparation for graduate and professional school entrance examinations such as the GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test), GRE (Graduate Record Examination), LSAT (Law School Admissions Test) and the MCAT (Medical College Aptitude Test).
