Abstract
In this poetry manuscript, the focus is primarily on identity; ironically, one of my poems is titled “Identity”. It also explores my point of view of the events that have occurred in my life and the people who brought sunshine back into my life. There is trauma, grief, happiness, community, and the importance of self-worth, all illustrated by poetry, which has proven to be one of my powerful ways of expressing myself. From the time I was in middle school, poetry has always given me a way to express myself that allowed me to move past my shyness. For the purpose of this essay, I will be discussing my poetic influences while working on my poems, how I went about revising my poems, and how I chose to format my manuscript. As a poet, this collection brought out my vulnerable side and helped me heal my inner child.
