Abstract

In my work, I seek to establish that queerness has a history with the field of writing composition and that this history can shape modern composition through a specific lexicon containing the terms derivative, originative, Rogerian, rhetorical failure, and master narratives. To provide evidence for this, I have included data from a study I conducted with four sections of English 1102. By analyzing the words of actual composition students, I highlight a need within composition to recognize queerness more overtly, both in theory and in practical applications.
