Abstract

The use of Open Educational Resources (OER) is becoming increasingly widespread in higher education institutions as the ease of use, equitable access, and the cost-free availability makes OER a viable option for classroom materials. Incorporating OER into the curriculum can be both beneficial and challenging for faculty. Because librarians are skilled and efficient in finding adequate resources to supplement learning, they prove to be an asset when striving to implement an OER initiative in the institution. While faculty would be the primary group to introduce many of the OER to students, it takes a collaborative effort between faculty and librarians to collect, curate, evaluate, and integrate the resources effectively into classroom curriculum. This literature review examines student and faculty perceptions of OER implementation and highlights best practices of collaborative efforts used by academic librarians to assist in the implementation of OER initiatives in colleges and universities.
