Abstract
The article reports that the Committee on Accreditation of the American Library Association (ALA) has accredited the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) Program at Valdosta State University (VSU) in Valdosta, Georgia. The VSU MILS is the only ALA-accredited program in Georgia among the 56 accredited institutions in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The accreditation will allow the university to offer library and information science education in Georgia. The MLIS Program focuses on educating librarians for academic, public and special libraries in Georgia through distance education designed for students who cannot return to a single campus for extended periods of time.
