Abstract

In this paper, ordinary differential equation (ODE) and stochastic differential equation (SDE) models are developed to describe the dynamics of online social network user adoption and abandonment. A series of criteria on the uniqueness and positivity of solutions as well as the stability of the user-free equilibrium for both ODE and SDE models are obtained. Numerical simulations are then carried out to verify the qualitative analysis results. Finally, a case study utilizing the historical Facebook daily active user data is conducted to demonstrate the practicality of the models.
