Abstract
Relentless efforts by US elected officials to erode reproductive rights make the consequences of such punitive socio-political actions an apt focus for dystopic novels. Writers such as Margaret Atwood, Octavia Butler, Louise Erdrich, Ling Ma, and Emily St. John Mandel imagine the extreme, though frighteningly plausible, outcomes of contemporary reproductive rights-based legislation and court rulings that weaken both the "legal right to reproductive health care services" and the "enforcement of laws" designed to protect reproductive choice (Ross and Solinger 69).
