Abstract

This chapter focuses on dispositions associated with diversity that emphasize acceptance rather than tolerance and acknowledge individual and group differences and similarities as having equal worth. The role of individual beliefs, sense of self-efficacy, and ethics relative to meeting the needs of diverse learners is discussed along with the need to structure learning opportunities and professional development for educators that engender productive responses to cognitive dissonance.
