Abstract
In the early 1980s family therapists recognized that in the therapeutic context families that owned businesses were different from families that did not own businesses. There has been vast confusion about how family business ownership affects and is affected by family dynamics. In this paper, we will explore the extant literature and present a framework to assist those in the therapeutic community think about the role of business in family life so as to enable the development of appropriate interventions.
