Abstract

The article discusses the use of mysteries and detective stories with technical vocabulary for geometry lessons in mathematics class in the U.S. middle school. According to the International Reading Association (IRA), story plot lines provide geometry lessons in which many states require reading and understanding of mathematical language. Novels which mention mathematical language include "Flatland: A romance of Many Dimensions," "The Da Vinci Code," and "Crimes and Mathdemeanors."
