Abstract
This is a practical approach to interdisciplinary teaching and learning through engaging learners in the exploration of controversial images and ideas. Images are powerful tools for conveying messages, and understanding how to interpret messages is at the heart of all controversial ideas and images. This approach is appropriate for areas of the humanities, arts and social sciences. Three authors, an artist, an art educator, and a sociologist explore possibilities for interdisciplinary teaching and present concrete ideas and examples that can be applied in a variety of settings.
