Abstract
This paper describes the design of a new course in N-Tier Client/Server systems, motivation and challenges, pedagogical considerations, the technology used, and the courses integration in the innovative Master of Science in Applied Computer Science program at Kennesaw State University. This course introduces client/server systems and technologies, middleware, and distributed computing. Unique aspects include the student hands-on lab experience with the development of the client software for a PDA platform, which interconnects over a wireless connection through middleware to a database server, in a three-tiered architecture.
