Abstract
Applies R. Schwartz and L. Schwartz's (1986) model of couple formation and development to the 2-career situation. It is suggested that stresses experienced by 2-career couples might be decreased by (1) becoming aware of the basic functions and dynamics of marital relationship and (2) integrating rituals into this often chaotic lifestyle. Strategies for dealing with competition, sex-role and power conflicts, childcare problems, and stress are articulated within a model that identifies connection, separation, and reconnection as crucial exchange points in intimate relationships.
