Description

Archives are no longer closed departments, hoarding their treasures from the world. Archival staff have had to adapt and take advantage of new technologies to disseminate collections to broader audiences. We will showcase four digitized archival collections from Nova Southeastern University’s Archives:

  1. A chronology using the third party app, TimelineJS
  2. An Archives/graduate student collaboration of “Looking Into The Past” photos using geolocational information on Google Maps
  3. A donated collection of underwater slide photography with digitization and taxonomic identification efforts by staff at the NSU Oceanographic Center Library
  4. An Oral Histories project using Kaltura Video Platform

Potential learning outcomes for attendees:

  1. Technology tips on 3rd party apps to employ with digital archival collections
  2. Using the bepress institutional repository platform, Digital Commons, to display and disseminate archival collections
  3. Collaboration suggestions for faculty, students, and staff on creating new digital content from historical and donated materials
