Department Chair: Dr. Mark Mitchell

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers ACS accredited degree programs in chemistry, biochemistry, and environmental chemistry, as well as concentrations in forensic chemistry and chemistry education.

In Chemistry and Biochemistry, we have a bright and energetic faculty and a dedicated, helpful professional staff who are all available to assist our students as they grow and mature as scientists. The faculty members have research interests that span all of the typical sub-disciplines of chemistry: analytical, bio-, environmental, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Undergraduate research is a critical component of our students’ preparation and training, and all of our faculty members engage in undergraduate research. Additionally, we actively pursue internships and external undergraduate research opportunities for our students. Our department also has a significant focus on chemistry education and teacher training, and one of our main goals is to work with KSU's Bagwell College of Education to prepare high school chemistry teachers that are effective and engaging educators in the classroom, providing them with the tools and support to help them succeed.
