Description of Work
Brumby Chair Factory was the name of the building located on Kennesaw Ave, opened in 1875 (and rebuilt with the recognizable red brick in 1879 due to a locomotive induced fire). The factory housed the Brumby Chair Company; a company already on its second rebirth from its original start as barrel manufacturer and original building in Marietta that it had outgrown. [1] The factory was once Marietta’s largest employer with 350 employees. [2] Now long from its days as a factory, the red brick building has a new title as the Brumby Lofts and a new purpose as an apartment complex housing 131 loft apartments and 36 roommate-style suites. [3] The Brumby Lofts are only a case study into what is possible for forgotten historical sites.
