Abstract (300 words maximum)
The research of visual design and the functions of products is vital to consumerism. Packaging influences consumers to purchase products. Packaging can evoke emotion and form connections that can sway a consumer into purchasing a product. The production, and consumption of goods is key to a successful economy. The goal of this research is to understand the process of creating a successful packaging for a new product from start to finish. The steps for creating a successful package design begins with the five functions of packaging: promote, position, present, provide and protect. After considering the five functions you must consider a target audience, researching what package design is trending, finding colors and typography that resonate with the product’s branding, and focusing on design principles. The results will provide a step by step to creating a successful package design that will include: concept drawings, word ideations for creating a brand, sketches for a logo, sketches for the dielines, mood board, personas, a brand positioning chart, an analysis of the product, and a final packaging design for the product.
