Geography, as the study of the world and its many interrelated components, presents an enormous range of opportunities for exploration and discovery. Some explorations involve travel and physical activity while others occur in offices, archives, or focus groups. As a discipline that encompasses a large range of research topics and methods, geography attracts a diverse community, including individuals with multiple interests. Although developing and maintaining focus is necessary for increasing expertise and authority, having a broader view gives us more perspectives to draw from and, often, facilitates new insights into causal relationships among seemingly disparate elements of our worlds. The wealth of interests, experiences, and perspectives found in the wider geographical community enrich all of us. They are worth fostering, as are opportunities for each of us to expand our personal horizons and benefit from new experiences.
