Abstract

At the Gamma Theta Upsilon business meeting, October, 1973 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, President Speigner read the inscription and showed the plaque to be presented to Dr. Robert G. Buzzard, founder of Gamma Theta Upsilon. Dr. Buzzard's reply to Dr. Speigner follows. 27 January 1972 Dr. Theodore R. Speigner Department of Geography North Carolina Central University Durham, North Carolina 27701 EDITOR'S COMMENTS Dear Dr. Speigner: Through the courtesy of the Department of Geography at Arizona State University, and the personal kidness of Dr. Leslie A. Holmes, Visiting Professor in that institution, there has been delivered to me a magnificent engraved copper plaque, mounted on wood, reading, " Gamma Theta Upsilon. With respectful appreciation to Robert G. Buzzard, Founder of the Society, Milwaukee, October 27, 1972, Theodore E. Speigner, International President." Words are a faint medium with which to express appreciation for such kindness and consideration, but words from a distance must be my means of communication with you. When out of these more than fourscore years which I have lived, from the far distance comes a recall of past service or of human contact, such inci4 dent takes on major proportions. The sending of this message from Gamma Theta Upsilon does exactly that recall for me.
