Abstract

February 21, 2004 was a sad day for all of us acquainted with C. Nicholas Raphael. On that morning, at age 66, he passed away suddenly, leaving a community he loved and one which loved him. Nick had been our dear friend and colleague for more than three decades. He will be remembered by many in the geographical profession as the editor of Gamma Theta Upsilon’s The Geographical Bulletin, a position he proudly occupied since 1987. Nick began a productive and fruitful life as the son of R. George and Angela Raphael on September 3, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan. He maintained his Greek ethnic origin with pride, always supported by Joan, his wife of 39 years, and two loving daughters, Nicole Marie and Katherine Leigh.
