Abstract
Peter Birkeland's Soils and Geomorphology (3rd ed.) defines 'soil geomorphology' as, "the study of soils and their use in evaluating landform evolution and age, landform stability, surface processes, and past climates." Indeed, the book addresses these issues and then does more; it bridges the gap between geomorphology and pedology. The book can serve as a text for the advanced student in soil science, pedology, or geomorphology as well as a reference guide for the expert soil scientist. In short, Soils and Geomorphology is a 'must have' publication for all who work in the fields of soils and geomorphology.
