Abstract
The Pudong New Development Area (east of Shanghai) is one of the more recent special economic zones to emerge in the People's Republic of China. It is being built with the experience gained during earlier developments along the eastern coastal area of China. Much of the infrastructure has been put into place and improved. Preferential policies have been awarded to investors which have expanded on those given previously. Since then, the Pudong New Development Area has not only boosted the economic development of Shanghai and the Yangtze River valley, but has also played an important role in China's overall progress as it moves toward the Twenty-first century
