Abstract
This study assesses the ability of Eastern Michigan University students to correlate selected newspaper headlines with the actual location of the associated stories. For this purpose, a stratified random sample of 100 students was selected from students enrolled in classes offered by the Military Science Department. A 25-item test was given to 25 freshmen , sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The students' scores averaged 76.7 percent. Of the variables examined, significant differences in test results were obtained when comparing males to females, the four academic classes, and groupings based upon ACT scores. A lesser distinction was evident when comparing the results of student groupings based upon cumulative grade point average.
