Abstract

The future of research in physical geography is assessed and discussed. The discussion is divided into three parts: the inevitable generalization and comments on geography; geography's share of research funds; and critical research objectives for the future are selectively surveyed. The comments are hopefully not solely limited to physical geography but to geography in general. In spite of technical innovations the writer suggests field studies, regional information and an assessment of older data ought to be undertaken.
