Abstract
It is hoped that readers pay particular attention to articles in this issue. Larry Handley's article on Mormon settlement is well done. The article on the Maritime Environment by Robert Smith is a good application of Political Geography. Bruce Graves has a statement on a sub-field of geography worthy of your thought. All maps in this issue were done by Mr. Gary O'Dell who teaches high school geography in Kansas City, Mo. This issue has been assembled during a time when the National Science Foundation has been receiving criticism from Congress regarding NSF funding of controversial school curriculum. A common reaction by educators has been that they wonder just what Congress knows about these sorts of things. Negative reactions to congressional activity generally have been (in my experience) by persons who are not familiar with the curriculums in question. It is difficult to take those reactions seriously. If you are involved in curriculum review, please look closely at the Congress/NSF controversy. It is quite possible that Congress is correct.
