Abstract
The following paper analyzes a very apparent connection that occurs in the movie “Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei”. Weingartner, the director, uses the leading characters’ jealousy, greed, love, and hatred to critique their political battle for self-righteousness. This paper observes the protagonists’ process of engaging in politics as activists, aiming to satisfy their ideals while discovering their personal satisfaction and political orientation. Their political activities and ideals either reflect or contradict their personal principles. The connection of these processes helps one understand and be critical about the motives of the main figures in the movie. This analysis will enable the reader to grasp a deeper level of understanding about the behavioral patterns of the protagonists, to what extent they are influenced by their political ideals, and through which methods the director portrays the protagonists.
