Abstract

In this chapter, the author discusses the role of formal and less formal mentoring in the professional development of new faculty members. The department chairs and deans can be especially valuable as mentors under certain circumstances. Consulting available resources and support systems, the published literature, colleagues, and administrators can make a real difference in one's effectiveness as a faculty member.
