Abstract

The article discusses a shortage of accounting doctorates in the U.S. The authors draw upon a study from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Research Foundation in considering the magnitude of the shortage and its impact on the accounting profession, interest among accounting professionals in transitioning to academia, and support for flexible doctoral programs.
