Abstract
Talk to any editor or publisher of a nursing association–based journal, and he or she will tell you that there is consistent friction between members who want a clinical focus and those who want a research focus. JANAC is no different. This debate is most likely very healthy as long as the outcome acknowledges that practice has to be research-based and nursing research informs practice. In its move from an apprentice-based to an academic model of education, nursing embraced evidenced-based practice as a vital element of professionalism.
