Abstract
Over the past year our group, the Delta Warehouse Improvement team, has worked to make several improvements to the Delta flight products’ warehouse. The project started by sitting down with managers to discuss what improvements or areas our group could make the biggest impact. We decided to form our project around three main goals. These goals included creating a digital dashboard for the warehouse’s kitting system, improving the current part kitting system, and updating the warehouse’s AutoCad layout.
Throughout the semesters, our team was successfully able to meet and exceed our project goals. With the help of Delta’s team members, we created and implemented a custom digital dashboard located in front of the managerial desks. This installation allows any employee or outside manager to easily view key KPI’s such as kitting jobs in progress or to be completed. In the second part of our project, we created an alternative shelving design using Flexsim. Flexsim is a simulation software that allowed our group to not only model but collect data virtually to track and visualize possible layout improvements. In our last phase of the project we discovered the existing AutoCad layout was outdated and didnt include many important details. To resolve this, we performed a walkthrough of the full warehouse, taking measurements of shelving, walkways, storage areas to create an updated 2D cad model of the inventory space.
Thanks to cooperation and collaboration between our team and Delta Flight Products, these improvements will improve daily functions and make the warehouse operations more efficient moving forward.
