Abstract

The International AstroTech Team proposes an innovative technology designed to revolutionize future space missions by facilitating in-space 3D printing using locally sourced materials. This cutting-edge technology focuses on developing an automated system capable of recycling polymers in space and transforming them into high-quality 3D printing filaments. By implementing this method, the technology addresses critical needs such as on-site resource utilization, sustainability, on-demand manufacturing, and resource efficiency. This approach not only reduces the dependency on Earth-supplied materials but also enhances the overall sustainability and operational flexibility of space missions. Consequently, it holds the potential to significantly advance the capabilities of space exploration, paving the way for more sustainable and efficient long-term missions.
