Description

In 2018, Gordon State College faculty were awarded an Affordable Learning Georgia grant to build a new OER-based, CC-licensed Humanities survey class (Humn 1500) to replace two textbook-based Humanities survey classes. Since 2020, Humn 1500 has been successfully taught using OER exclusively. This panel includes the three recipients of the grant who currently teach the course (Davis, Nourizadeh, and Perkowski) as well as the Department Chair (Whitelock) who organized the grant and currently assesses the course. The panelists will discuss and answer questions about designing the course to best meet the needs of Gordon’s diverse student population, finding and using OER, and discovering the advantages and disadvantages of OER.
