SPARC states that "Open Education encompasses resources, tools and practices that are free of legal, financial and technical barriers and can be fully used, shared and adapted in the digital environment. Open Education maximizes the power of the Internet to make education more affordable, accessible and effective."
The University System of Georgia (USG) launched the Affordable Learning Georgia (ALG) initiative to place USG institutions on the national and global OER stage by giving out grants to faculty who create an OER for their class(es).
