Abstract

The article discusses the use of environmental print in helping middle-grade students construct knowledge within mathematics. Print advertisements allow students to practice communicating mathematically specifically on sale prices, shipping and handling costs or costs per unit. Solicitations can be used to examine offers to purchase, switch or use a product, service or program. A three-level framework to guide teachers on ways of using environmental print in the classroom is presented.
