Abstract
The article focuses on the guide to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) issued by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). An overview of FERPA, which was first ratified by the U.S. Congress in 1974 is presented. It states how the misconstrued opinion on a school's release of records under FERPA has denied the public incorrectly. Cases which show a misconstrued understanding in the use of FERPA are summarized.
