Abstract

How we describe something defines it. A specific choice of words can cause irreparable damage to an idea or immortalize it. This paper examines the etymology of "Ethical Hacking." By examining the meaning of the term ethical hacking and the ways in which it is used, the field of information security can seek to mitigate some of the notoriety hackers enjoy and avoid slighting the ethical work performed by the discipline.
