Abstract

We consider the eigenvalue problems for boundary value problems of second order difference equations

(1) Δ(r_i-1Δy_i-1)+λa_iy_i = 0, 1 ≤ i ≤ n, y₀ = y_n+1 - δy_n = 0,

and

(2) A(r_i-1Δy_i-1)+μb_iy_i = 0, 1 ≤ i ≤ n, yo = y_n+1 - δy_n = 0.

Comparison results for the eigenvalues of the problem (1) and the problem (2) are established.
